What is it?

Milling is a mechanical process that occurs in cold through chip removal. This technique facilitates the production of finished parts from raw metal parts and removal of excess material. This is the procedure for obtaining clear lenses by milling PMMA. The construction of prototypes in Acrylic PMMA is used in different sectors and also applies to the automotive industry. PMMA Acrylic is notoriously difficult to manage because it fractures, creating cracks and bends easily. It must be handled with great care. In addition, polishing the PMMA takes a long time. Using CNC machines, it only takes 15 days to make and slide 6 complete sets of lenses for a new car. The whole project may be sent in 2 weeks.

  1. Cut a block of acrylic material.
  2. CNC milling of the B-side of the lens.
  3. Fill the B side of the quarry area with plaster.
  4. Work the plaster surface and edges.
  5. Turn the piece and create references machines.
  6. Work through the surface of the CNC Part A.
  7. After milling, the only part that holds the workpiece on the surface of the milling machine is the plaster.
  8. Remove the plaster with solvent
  9. When the polisher is painting the part, it gauges the depth of the polished finished work.
  10. The part is polished until it becomes crystal clear, making sure that the edges remain sharp and that polishing is done smoothly.
